Newsweek Unexpectedly Quit

"Newsweek Unexpectedly Quit", its all I can read.

Bait and switch

Dont waste your time downloading this one unless you are willing to pay $3.00/issue. Its not free as shown. They give you a free sample of a special issue on Obama and thats all.

Good Start

I am always stunned by comments about "this is not free...they expect you to pay". Well of course they do. If you work for FREE, send me an email...Ill hire you! You are getting the application free, as promised and paying $3.99 for an issue is very reasonable! Now, with that out of the way...the application is a great start! However, just a couple of comments: 1) It would appear you need to be online to read your purchase: bad! I bought it, I should be able to read it when and where I want. 2) Table of contents is not linked to the actual articles in the magazine: painful navigation 3) The use of page thumbnails across the bottom is well done...except that there are no page numbers: add this to item number two and the navigation is VERY painful. Performance (once a page is loaded) is great and quality of material is very hi. Fix the couple of issues above and you have a great news app! Ill buy more issues when you do. Ray

Not there yet, but pretty good!

Yes, you must pay for the content. I agree with that. Im not working for free and I dont expect the others to do it. If you do, contact me, I have stuff to do in the house. The apps is good. But, I think it deserve a little more polishing. We are getting there!

The future

Now this is the future of magazines like Newsweek. Of course were going to pay for content, but if its presented like this, Im more than happy to do so!

Another misleading app

Say what you will about what the definition of is is- it aint free bucko and that is the misleading part. Delete.

Practically no navigation

I had no illusion that I would access Newsweek content for free with this app - if you want that, try their website, folks. I did want the convenience of reading an issue now and then on my iPad paying less than the cost of the print version, and will probably still use it. That said, this is a pretty lame application - perhaps Newsweek should indeed charge for it and give the current issue "for free" if that would give more resources for developing a better app. Theres no tappable TOC, just a static version of the printed version. If you want to read an article on page 77, youll have to eyeball its location by tapping away at the page thumbnails at the bottom of the page. Even the Spectator, whose app is not much more sophisticated, has a better system. That said, for a good example of a to-iPad transition, check out Der Spiegel.

Page changing is terrible

I am willing to pay a subscription but this app needs work. The page changing is terribly slow. Go back to Zinio to see how it is done. Needs to be able to select words and add comments or send to Facebook and article to discuss. More interaction, please. Need a yearly subscription. Good try but the app needs serious work.

Preview

I have no problem with the price, but at the magazine stand I at least have the ability to review the table of contents. I have a problem paying for something when I dont know whats inside

Useless

All you get is the cover of each issue - they should at least provide the table of content.

Low res photos

The iPads screen is almost HD quality and you are embedding VGA images. When zoomed, the magazine looks awful!

Need more development

So basic and primitive compared to any Mag at AppStore. UnFortunateLy: No BookMark option (c.f. The Economist mag) No page to text (c.f. National Geography or Readers digest) No iTOC - interactive Table Of Content (c.f. How it Works - MegaPixel) No Search (c.f. any regular PDF, or How it Works) No option to read it later or InstaPaper

Newsweek app.

There is no doubt about the great articles in the magazine but the app is full of bugs and problems. I have had the subscription for a while and have had to restore my purchases every time I go back to the app . Since earlier to day the app will not even let me restore my purchases. Please fix the problem before trying to sell the app to people will be disappointed.

Still not working right

Downloaded the newsstand edition thinking that finally this app might stop crashing and insisting that I re-register every time I want to read the #€£#+ magazine. Now the new version wont find my subscription and I am just as badly off.

This app is a ripoff!!

Jan 23, 2012 I wrote the following review in November when an issue I bought asked me to buy it again last November. You returned it to me, thank you very much, I really appreciated it. Today I just updated my Newsweek app, and guess what?? I asked to restore my purchases, my Steve Jobs commemorative issue is gone again and nowhere to even purchase it again. I bought the Royal Wedding issue months ago and now it wants me to buy the issue again. Can I please have them back? Im seriously getting fed up with this app. ------------------------------------------------------------- I bought the commemorative issue on Steve Jobs on my iPad a few weeks ago, now when I go to read it, it wants me to buy it again. Is this how you sell digital magazines by not letting us keep what we buy? I want my magazine back or this app is going to be deleted and Im not reading Newsweek again. If I didnt have to rate this app to submit, you would get zero stars!

Problem in the new App

Ever since I upgraded to the new App the Newsweek is shifted to the Newsstand and my subscriptions issues are no longer available to me. I have contacted the available venues but the issue cannot be corrected. Please go back to the earlier App as it was working perfectly.

Text too tiny

No matter how good an app is or how good the content is, if the font size cannot be increased, the product is useless to me. I just turned 50, my eyes are not what they used to be, but I guess this product is meant only for 20 year olds with 20-20 vision. Its so hard to find developers with common sense like Steve Jobs used to have.

Looks awful on retina screen

This app needs an update badly. It looks like a blurry mess on the new ipad

Crashing

I cant even open the app, it just keeps crashing. So glad I didnt purchase a susbcription >:(

Cannot read offline

The app crashes when in airplane mode in iOS 6.1
